PLI-NYC China Conference
Beijing, China, October 11, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Mr. Edward Lehman, Managing Director of Lehman, Lee & Xu was asked by the New York Bar Association and the Practicing Law Institute of New York City to be a featured speaker at the conference entitled “Doing Business in China: Resolving the Challenges in Today's Environment" The conference was held by the Practicing Law Institute in New York City on October 2nd, 2007. Mr. Lehman presented on the topics of Foreign Direct Investment in China and Private Equity and M&A activity in China.
Other conference topics included discussions of the new private property law, intellectual property enforcement, and arbitration and arbitral awards. Other presenters included Edmund Duffy Partner in Charge of Asian Offices for Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom based in New York, Dr. Zhou Xiaolin, Partner with the New York office of Jun He and Q. Adam Li, Partner-in-charge Jun He's Shanghai office and Peter Guang Chen Partner in International Tax Chinese Services Group USA.
Mr. Liu Zhen Min, Ambassador of the P.R. China Mission to the United Nations was a guest speaker at the conference and spoke on the general future of China, including his predictions about China’s further economic and societal development. Generally optimistic and encouraged about China’s future and development, Ambassador Liu also addressed and took questions on the recent changes and harmonization of China income tax code, the future of the high tech industry, and the protection of the China’s environment.
The conference was well attended by several thousand attorneys, either in person or via a special webcast.
Mr. Duffy, noted that Lehman, Lee & Xu is China's third largest law firm and that Edward Lehman is the longest serving foreigner with a Chinese law firm, and the longest serving managing director of any law firm in the People's Republic of China. He further mentioned that Edward Lehman has been selected as one of the 30 most famous lawyers in China and that Lehman, Lee & Xu has been selected by it's peers and China in-house counsel as the "Best Tax Law Firm in China" over the past four years.
