Craig Miller Brings Home the Gold for a Marvin Home Remodel
The Home Builders Association of Charlotte Awards Kinterra Group First Place
Waxhaw, NC, May 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Craig Miller recently completed one of the greatest home transformations of his 25-year building career. The Home Builders Association of Charlotte recognized Miller’s hard work on April 11 at the 25th annual Excellence in Remodeling banquet by awarding the renovation first place in its category, “Whole House Renovation, Over $400k.” Entries were judged in terms of design, function, craftsmanship, difficulty and solutions.
“One of the biggest challenges with this home was giving it curb appeal because of its extremely long, ranch-style facade,” said Miller, owner of Kinterra Group, LLC. Miller worked with Tony Gray of Gray Design Architecture, PA to add interest to the exterior and break up the one-dimensional appearance.
“We added a front porch to the master bedroom, making the right side of the house look completely different from the left side,” Miller explained. “We also added layered gables to the roofline and used a combination of standard brick, painted brick and batten board on the exterior.”
The 30 acres of land surrounding the house is what initially attracted Dave and Meghan Bartholomew to the Marvin property. Their family of five loves camping out, playing volleyball and having friends over for bonfires and tractor rides. Sam, 10, Adam, 8, and Elizabeth, 6, especially like the hangout space Miller built over their garage because “it feels like a tree house,” Meghan Bartholomew said.
When Miller began, the home was essentially 1,200 square feet of living space bookended by identical master suites. To create a warmer atmosphere in the entryway, Miller defined a foyer area and lowered the high ceilings in the living room. He added a home office, half bath and additional living space to the master suite on one end of the home. The other side now hosts three bedrooms, two baths, a laundry room and a common study area for the kids. In all, Kinterra Group expanded the original 2,500-square-foot home to 5,200 square feet.
“Craig focused on making the house function perfectly for our family,” said Bartholomew. “And it does – the layout works really well for us. Craig’s efforts to give our family the best were always evident in the quality of his work, his choice of contractors and all of our design discussions.”
