Oak Hill, WV, October 11, 2007 --(PR.com)-- ACE Adventure Center and the New River Gorge are the colorful setting for the 6th annual New River Gorge-ous Trail Run & Walk. Slated for Saturday, October 27th, the race and run feature several formats for all ages. The long course, last in the season-long Mountain State Trail Run Series, features 13 miles of rolling hills and a deep 500’ descent into the Gorge. The short run and trail walk take racers along the rim of the Gorge traversing several small hollows in a half marathon, 7.5 mile run or 4.5 mile walk.
Race Director and Course Designer, Jeff Walls, developed the event to be family friendly. “The whole course wanders through deep hardwood forest and offers spectacular views of the river. Racers will be able to see the historic New River and town of Thurmond 1,000 feet below the course trail. Whether you come to compete or are out for a leisurely walk or stroll, you’ll enjoy every step of your trek over some of the most scenic paths in the state. Since the Gauley River whitewater season is completed the weekend before, the Adventure Center is perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding and enjoyment of the colorful fall season.”
In addition to three race formats and age divisions within each, first place overall male and female winners in the trail run divisions will receive cash awards. Other winners will be entered in a drawing and receive recognition medals. Free t-shirts are provided to the first 100 registered racers in addition to a free race lunch and complimentary tent camping at ACE’s spacious campground. Chalet rentals and other lodging options are available on a space available basis as well as delicious meals prepared in the Lakeside Dining Lodge with reservations and prepayment requested.
