Jacob Morse Named Recipient of Campbell Law School Leadership Scholar Award
Incoming First-Year Law Student Receives Full Tuition Scholarship Award from Local Law School in Recognition of Leadership Potential
Raleigh, NC, May 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Campbell Law School has selected incoming first-year student Jacob Morse to receive the institution’s Leadership Scholar Award. The award is one of three new, highly prestigious, full-tuition awards.
The Leadership Scholar Award keeps with the law school’s efforts to educate graduates who will become effective advocates and leaders for legal and social justice. Beginning with the 2014-15 academic year, the scholarship will be awarded annually to one incoming law student who has demonstrated leadership skills and the potential to become a leader in the law.
“I’m incredibly grateful and excited for the opportunity that Campbell Law has provided me in the Leadership Scholar Award,” said Morse. “Their confidence in my future is truly humbling, and I can’t wait to start this next chapter of my life at a place with such a deeply rooted legacy in North Carolina’s legal history."
A senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Morse has served the UNC-CH community in an array of leadership roles including vice president of the student body, student representative to the UNC-CH Board of Trustees University Affairs Committee and the Carolina Union Board of Directors. Morse also served on committees dealing with academic advising, commencement and academic planning, and was chair of the university’s Student Advisory Committee to the Chancellor. Morse participated in the Honors Carolina Burch Field Research Seminar in Washington, D.C., where he held an internship with U.S. Rep. David Price (D-NC).
An internal search committee comprised of experienced leaders within the Campbell Law community interviewed an impressive slate of eight finalists and ultimately selected Morse for the award. Professor Melissa Essary, who served as dean of the law school from 2006-12, led the committee alongside Colon Willoughby (L ‘79) and Anna Brinkley (L ’13). Willoughby was Wake County District Attorney from 1987-2014, while Brinkley was Campbell Law’s Student Bar Association president as a third-year student in 2012-13.
“Jacob was an outstanding student leader in college,” said Essary. “In effect, he was the advocate for the student body. He led diverse groups of students on a myriad of complex issues while ultimately guiding the groups toward consensus and resolution. During the interview, Jacob’s professionalism and strength of character were evident. We look forward to great accomplishments from Jacob as he joins the Campbell Law community this fall.”
