8th Annual Manhattan Film Festival Announces 2014 Lineup

New York, NY, May 08, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Manhattan Film Festival announced today their complete 2014 lineup as well as an increase in festival duration. The festival has rapidly grown since the launch of their Filmmaker Revenue Sharing Program and to address this growth have added four additional days to their schedule making it the second longest running festival (duration) in NYC.

Opening night will feature Ray Klonsky & Marc Lamy’s feature documentary “David & Me.” The film is about the case of David McCallum, in jail since 1985 when he was only 16. Director Ray Klonsky began writing letters to McCallum when he was a teenager. Years later, Ray is determined to free his wrongly convicted friend. The film features commentary by the late boxer Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, who himself spent 19 years in prison before being exonerated. “David & Me” chronicles the efforts to establish McCallum’s innocence. The case recently garnered much media attention when, just before his death, Carter said that not being able to free McCallum during his lifetime was the only regret of his professional career.

Following “David & Me” will be the NYC premiere of the feature narrative “The Wisdom To Know The Difference” directed by Daniel Baldwin. WISDOM is a story about a man’s journey (Daniel Baldwin) to bring his own sobriety full circle and help a young Latina girl (Mayra Leal) kick a serious drug problem by kidnapping and secluding her in a desolate cabin. Alec Baldwin says "I'm excited about Daniel's film because I believe he will make a very good director. Intuitive, creative and with tremendous life experience to draw from." The film also stars William Baldwin and Lou Diamond Phillips.

Screening opening day is “Know How” which is directed by Juan Carlos Pineiro Escoriaza. The film is written and acted by NYC foster care youth from the stories of their lives. Five youth's worlds interweave as they confront loss, heartbreak, and come of age in a broken system.

The festival will take place June 19 through July 3 and features a diverse film program that boasts a lineup featuring the works of established, emerging, as well as student filmmakers and talent. All screenings will take place at the Quad Cinema. Find the complete 2014 MFF 146 film lineup below:
