Castle Rock, CO, May 11, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Zonta Club of Douglas County hosts successful 10th annual Trivia Night;
Proceeds provide scholarship, grants to five charities

A room full of teams gathered confidently in Kirk Hall at the Douglas County Fairgrounds to compete in the recent 10th Annual Trivia Night hosted by the Zonta Club of Douglas County (www.zontadouglascounty.org).

After eight rounds of challenging trivia questions, the “Vulcan Mind Melds” (Aimee Bennett, team captain) emerged as the overall winner—receiving a $500 prize. Second place with a $300 prize went to the “Area 3 Zonta Presidents” (Debbie Squires, team captain) and third place with a $200 prize went to “And the winner is …” (Joe Crenshaw, team captain).

Emceed by Ed Greene of CBS4, the Trivia Night is the major fundraiser for Zonta Douglas County. Proceeds from this year’s event were used for a $2,000 Young Women in Public Affairs scholarship to Kianna Nguyen of Thunder Ridge High School in Highlands Ranch plus grants to five charities:

-Family Tree of Jefferson County, a shelter for victims of violence;
- Free The Girls, a Douglas County-based nonprofit that helps women out of sex trafficking and with economic development in five countries;
-Urban Peak, a Denver-based nonprofit serving homeless youth, for GED fees to help local young women;
- Women’s Global Empowerment Fund, an international, nonprofit based in Denver that helps women with literacy, and business and economic development in Uganda; and
- Afghans 4 Tomorrow, an international nonprofit based in Boulder that provides health education for women in Kabul.

Major sponsors for the 2014 Trivia Event were: The Harris Family & North Fork Lazy Ranch, IREA, Foothills Energy Services, Nesavich Properties, FirstBank of Douglas County, Bob Kolbe, Castle Rock Eagles and Castle Rock Bank.

“We wouldn’t have had such a successful event without the generous support of our sponsors,” says Rhonda Bolich-Lampo, Trivia Event Chair. “Team members enjoyed a delicious dinner, beverages and snacks, chocolate fountain, silent and live auction items—with most items donated by our many community sponsors.”
