Successful Self-Published Author Helps New Writers Get a Good Start
Award winning poet and novelist Alex Hutchinson had a lot of help establishing himself as a writer. It took thirteen years of ink and tears but this gypsy lauriat has finally reached a position where he is able to give back and he plans to do that by helping new writers get a good start.
Cape Cod, MA, October 12, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Whether it be traveling with the circus, training with the Army or boxing in a fightclub, Alex Hutchinson has always had first hand experiences worthy of a story. What he didn't always have was a way to reach a wider audience with the works that he produced. "Even after I was published, there existed a void, an anti-echo chamber where my books would float around with only a few people willing to read them. What made it worse was that I didn't have much money to advertise with. These two forces brought me to a point of desperation and it's a point that most self-published writers run into." But Alex didn't give up, he doubled his networking efforts by sending out six hundred faxes and ten thousand e-mails. "The effect was slow and gradual but I did eventually get more responses than I ever had before. My reviews included two international magazines and the front page of three small town newspapers." So the effort was all worth the wait but can every up and coming writer spend that kind of energy on promoting their new book? Alex doesn't think so. "If there were two things that I needed and didn't have back when I started, it was low cost advertising and honest book reviews." So that is exactly what he has decided to provide for his fellow authors but especially for those who have published their first book. "I do charge a little money for both services but I don't make a profit from it. This is my way of giving back and getting the chance to read some new talent."
