Live Lobster Auctions in Real Time Now Possible with AIKIDO Bay
Portland, ME, May 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The New Normal in buying and selling wholesale live lobster is emerging. Aikido Bay (www.aikidobay.com) has taken an innovative approach to a more transparent marketplace for buyers and sellers. "We often hear that sellers do not believe they are getting a good price. We also hear buyers stating that their costs are 'through the roof' and margins have eroded." These are the words from Kevin Murphy (CEO and Co-founder of AIKIDO Bay).
Co-Founders Ivan Sokolovich (CIO), Alex Shavialevcih (CFO) and Kevin started AIKIDO Bay to help bring better transparency, efficiency and margins to buyers and sellers.
This approach is so innovative, yet simple to use, that it has spawned many skeptics and a few critics. Each skeptic looking for a better way has been convinced in a short demonstration session provided by AIKIDO Bay. The marketplace will soon know which buyers and sellers are open to transparency in the market. There is never an obligation to participate in an auction, but in order to participate of view live auctions you must be registered. http://bit.ly/1gDpduI
"The amount of time a moderate sized lobster company spends on buying and selling lobster everyday, just in payroll, overhead and paperwork is staggering. We whittle that down to a few minutes a day, for one person. This leaves so much more valuable time to concentrate on building the Live Lobster brand," said Murphy.
AIKIDO Bay has addressed many of the issues of quality control, logistics and credits/claims. After a series of successful auctions they took excellent user feedback and incorporated some minor changes into the system. AIKIDO Bay also offers buyers several options for funding their Buying Accounts now, something that was not available before. The Auction Site accepts lobster listings from Northern Canada down through New England but accepts buyers from across the nation. The response has been incredible.
Currently AIKIDO Bay has twenty registered users, able to buy and sell everyday. Auctions are scheduled every day of the week and registered users are alerted when lot's have been listed. The user list keeps growing. More and more buyers and sellers are registering. It is possible to be both a buyer and seller on the site, but precautions have been taken to protect users from bidding on their own products.
"Every week we are confronted with a 'good' problem. Who do we allow to use the system?" Murphy remarked. Currently the user list is made up mostly of lobster wharves, coops, brokers and wholesale buyers...and that was the plan from the beginning. But the user list is growing at AIKIDO Bay. Each week restaurant groups, grocers and distributors across the US are contacting AIKIDO Bay requesting more information and permission to use the system. With that in mind, AIKIDO Bay is readying its next phase: offering boxed live lobster for domestic air shipment. Kevin also said, "We will use our unique position to align registered sellers capable of boxing and shipping live lobster with these new buyers. I really think we will be doing a great service to our users as we accept customers from further and further away who have not been directly exposed to the live lobster market because of their logistics. We must continue to evolve."
And evolve they are. From live crated lobster sales, to live boxed lobster sales is not a huge stretch. But the next steps of frozen lobster products and other seafood is not far off.
AIKIDO Bay has several pilot programs in the works right now domestically and internationally and expects to be in full time, 7 day a week operations by July 1. For more information, please visit www.aikidobay.com.
