P&V Enterprises Celebrates 20 Years in Business
New York, NY, May 21, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Husband-and-Wife Event Planning & Production Firm Says What Makes a Successful Marriage Also Makes a Successful Business
While the Bureau of Labor Statistics cites that only 26 percent of new businesses survive past 15 years, tell that to the husband-and-wife team of Vince and Pat Ahaesy, owners of Manhattan-based P&V Enterprises, an event planning, production and management firm, who just celebrated their 20th year in business.
Vince and Pat met through mutual friends in 1991. Pat was working as a travel agent in Phoenix, where she planned and coordinated tours, day trips, meetings and events for high profile individuals, doctors and a local hospital. Vince had his own multi-media production company and had come to Phoenix to work an event. After a few years of long-distance dating, they decided that one of them had to move in order for the relationship to continue.
“I enjoyed my job at the travel agency, but Vince had an actual business,” says Pat. “It made sense for me to be the one to move. So in 1993, I relocated to New York City and quickly found a job as the office manager at a midtown travel agency. But I soon realized that I really missed the planning and logistics of the group travel that I did back in Phoenix. So one day, Vince turned to me and said ‘Let’s work together.’ And the rest, as they say, is history.”
Pat and Vince formed P&V Enterprises in May, 1994, adding event planning and management to Vince’s audio/visual production and stage theatrical services. They both agreed to outsource certain event functions to a core group of professionals they can rely on to provide exceptional service. “This has proven to be a successful business model to keep our overhead costs low, as we only use these resources when we need them,” says Vince. “But it also ensures the quality of our events as we have a selection of top-notch professionals available to us at any given time.”
One reason for the success of P&V Enterprises is that the owners’ skill sets complement each other so well. Pat has a group travel background, so she handles the venue selection, negotiations, food and beverage, and the many details that go into coordinating an event. Vince’s expertise in theatrical staging, technology and multi-media production ensures that events not only run smoothly, but are visually memorable.
“We both know that our success is based on our clients’ success,” says Vince. “What sets us apart is our ability to add value to our clients’ events. So we both listen to what our clients want to achieve and strategize to find the best solution within their budget. My expertise is in using technology creatively and Pat’s is being that ‘go-to’ person for just about everything else.”
When they started their firm, Pat and Vince typically had 6-12 months to plan an event. But with the tremendous advances in technology for planning and staging events, that lead time often shrinks to 4-6 weeks, or less. Obviously, the ability to be creative and work well under pressure also contributes to the firm’s longevity.
Pat cites the example of a fashion show and reception for 1,100 guests at the Waldorf Astoria that they arranged for the Colombian Ministry of Trade to promote the fashion manufacturing capabilities of Colombia. Pat and Vince had less than two weeks to select the venue, arrange all the staging and production, and oversee a myriad of details such as constructing tiered seating in the ballroom, auditioning the models, setting up the backstage area for outfit changes and makeup, and airing a live webcast of the event—all while coordinating with their key contact in Columbia by Skype. The entire event went off without a hitch and was a huge success.
“Vince’s expertise had always been the creative use of technology to stay within the client’s budget,” says Pat. “When we first started, presentations were basically slide shows. Now, we use computers to achieve spectacular visuals and special effects. Vince is great at making the ‘theatre’ of the event look like more than what it really is.”
Technology has also driven the creation of two P&V subsidiaries. PNV Registration is an online and on-site event registration service and PNVWebcasts provides live and on-demand webcasting of events to participants across the country or the globe. Both can be used as a standalone service or as part of an overall event management program.

Pat and Vince both say that the things that make their marriage work also account for their business success. “For one thing, our skill sets just complement each other,” says Pat. “Plus we work well together, we make decisions mutually, and we respect each other. Oh, we may argue and disagree about things at times, but then it’s done, there’s no carry-over, and we never go to bed angry. I think that’s good for both our business and our marriage.”
“In this business, you need to be creative, to work well under pressure, and to always have a backup plan,” Vince continues. “It’s been a lot of work over these 20 years, but it certainly has been exhilarating.”
