Oregon Cat Shelter to Drastically Cut Adoption Fees to Help Fight Overcrowding and Euthanasia

Sherwood, OR, October 13, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Cat Adoption Team (CAT), the Pacific Northwest’s largest and fastest growing non-profit, no-kill cat shelter and hospital, is bursting at the seams with over 500 cats and kittens currently in their care. As a result, from October 12th through the 21st, the Cat Adoption Team will be offering 50% off all adoption fees on cats and kittens at all their adoption locations.

Every week the county shelters rely upon Cat Adoption Team to take in animals to help them with their space constraints, young kittens and sick or injured cats. This year alone, close to 1,550 felines have already been transferred with CAT’s “Nine Lives” transfer program.

Following this 10-day discount, CAT is hoping to double or triple the cats and kittens they usually take in from other shelters. Annually, over 26,000 cats and kittens are taken to Portland Metro Area shelters in hopes of finding them a new lease on life. Only half of those will actually be placed into loving forever homes.

In addition to taking cats from the public, CAT partners with three local county shelters on a weekly basis to offer relief from overcrowding and to help reduce euthanasia by taking in as many cats and kittens as they can. Kristi Brooks, Program Manager at CAT explains, “Since the fall is a slower time of year for adoptions, CAT is hoping that this promotion will help find more loving homes for cats and kittens. The fact is, when you adopt a cat or kitten, you actually save two lives. The one that you adopted and the space you opened up for another one to be saved.”

Brooks states, “We have a very generous donor who has offered to supplement the 50% discount so that we can continue to save more lives. CAT is very lucky to have compassionate people like this special donor in our community who uses her own personal funds to help the community’s homeless animals.”

Although reduced, the adoption fee ($42.50 for cats and $62.50 for kittens) still includes:

· Spay/Neuter surgery
· Microchip (includes $15 registration)
· Testing for FeLV and FIV
· FVRCP and Leukemia vaccinations
· Treatment for parasites (fleas and worms)
· Cat Care booklet

Adoption discounts qualify at CAT’s shelter in Sherwood, any of CAT’s six Petsmart locations in Hillsboro, Wilsonville, Tualatin, Tigard, Clackamas, and Washington Square, Tigard, PetCo in Tualatin, Pet Loft in Portland and Nature’s Pet in Beaverton.
