Prominent Downtown Artist Michael Anthony Pegues Joins Annual Fort Greene Brooklyn Juneteenth Festival

Brooklyn, NY, June 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Every year, the Cooperative Culture Collective assembles our nearest and dearest within the community in Cuyler Gore Park on the corner of Fulton and Greene for the annual Fort Greene Brooklyn Juneteenth Festival to observe another blessed anniversary when freedom finally rang for all in the United States. This day of reflection, gratitude, recognition and joy takes many exciting forms of cultural expression. One of the event’s cornerstones is the annual Fort Greene Brooklyn Juneteenth ArtWalk, curated this year by Brian Branch. "The ArtWalk has grown to be a spectacular display of our borough and our city’s creativity," said Branch.

Prominent Downtown artist, Brooklyn native and resident, Michael Anthony Pegues, recently named the "Black Andy Warhol" by the Seeds Society, accepted the festival committee's invitation last week to join this year’s ArtWalk for the 2014 Fort Greene Brooklyn Juneteenth Celebration. The Fort Greene Brooklyn Juneteenth committee reached out to Mr. Pegues, "as an artist with a beautifully powerful statement based in the freedom and culture passed forward from the generations before us," said Event Coordinator Andrew Richter. "We are honored that he as agreed to join us and exhibit on our ArtWalk."

Stretching from Fulton Street to Carlton Avenue along Greene Avenue, this vibrant outdoor exhibition is expected to attract a large and diverse audience of Brooklyn locals, New Yorkers from the other boroughs, as well as out-of-state visitors and tourists from all over the world. The event time is Saturday, June 14, 2014. Hours are 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Mr. Pegues will be creating art, painting and drawing "live," during the festival as well as exhibiting and selling his work. "The benefits in attracting visitors to your space on the walk while creation is happening is tremendous. You never know how this incredibly fluid environment will inspire you," said Richter.

Mr. Pegues is no stranger to engaging the public while creating his art and often works outside the traditional studio setting. In April he was one of the contributing artists at Pawel Althamer: "The Neighbors" at the New Museum, NYC, where his huge graffiti-style drawings dominated the walls and where he produced several new paintings, acrylic on canvas. Mr. Pegues said "Studio space, any space, is always at premium in New York. Famous but still struggling, I've had to learn to actively think and go outside the box -- I've made the world my studio. Have paint will travel."
