Young Cochlear Implant Recipients and Their Families Celebrate Success at CNI Cochlear Kids Camp, a Summer Camp in Estes Park, CO
Denver, CO, June 04, 2014 --(PR.com)-- During June and July of 2014 (June 19 – 22/July 31 – August 3), cochlear implant children and their families will come together at CNI Cochlear Kids Camp in Estes Park, CO for a long weekend of summer camp activities, networking and education. This one-of-a-kind opportunity takes place at YMCA of the Rockies, a beautiful nature oriented organization nestled in a serene mountain setting. From all 50 states and various other countries, families attend CNI Cochlear Kids Camp to meet others who are facing similar challenges and celebrating alike achievements.
CNI Cochlear Kids Camp is a program of Colorado Neurological Institute (CNI), a neuroscience nonprofit of 26 years in Englewood, CO. CNI specializes in providing a resource center for individual facing neurological conditions such as hearing disorders. Through research, patient services and education, CNI continues to grow its impact in the Rocky Mountain Region.
To date, over 4,000 attendees, including “cochlear kids” and their families, have participated in over 20 CNI Cochlear Kids Camps offered since the program’s founding in 2001. This approximate total includes 381 families from Colorado and 668 families from outside of Colorado.
Over the course of a camp session, families enjoy indoor and outdoor experiences that are both recreational and educational. Activities may include archery, swimming, “blast off,” horseback riding, educational workshops/lectures, ice cream socials, miniature golf, kickball, campouts, team building and much more.
“CNI Cochlear Kids Camp is special in the way it involves the whole family. Families with 'cochlear kid' sometimes live in communities where there are few or no other cochlear implant recipients. These camps provide the whole family the chance to meet others travelling similar paths,” says Tim Hermann, Co-Director of CNI Cochlear Kids Camp.
“For our son, this was the best one yet! Every camp is amazing – it meets our needs at every stage we are at with our son and his CI use/development,” said a camper’s mother.
