William Peace University Sponsors and Hosts CityCamp; Draws More Than a Hundred Government Officials, Entrepreneurs, and Citizens from Across NC
Four-Year Baccalaureate University Welcomes 150 Participants for Annual Three-Day Event on Bettering North Carolina
Raleigh, NC, June 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, is proud to announce that it sponsored and hosted the fifth annual CityCamp event, Friday, May 29, through Sunday, May 31. The non-profit event, which was previously held at the James B. Hunt Jr. Library on NC State University’s Centennial campus, brings citizens, government officials, and businesses together to openly innovate and improve quality of life in North Carolina through technology.
In all, 150 people, including WPU students, faculty and staff, along with representatives from companies such as Red Hat and Lenovo, participated in workshops, discussions, and a contest that pitted teams against one another with the chance to win $3,000. The winner of the contest, FreeWheeling NC, pitched an app idea that suggested safer bike routes for citizens in North Carolina in an effort to avoid areas with high road traffic.
“Overall, we had a great time and the rooms and buildings were a great fit,” said CityCamp Co-Planner Leo Suarez. “We very much enjoyed having this year’s event at WPU. The closeness of the classrooms and lecture hall was a good environment for people to socialize but easily find a space to break out and work.”
“This was a very exciting opportunity for us,” said Rebecca Leggett, Director of Visitor Services at William Peace University. “We believe in bettering our students and because of this event we’re going to be able to develop some sustainable relationships that could result in internship opportunities for them.”
The event was co-sponsored by Red Hat, MetLife, WRAL TechWire, and R4U. For more information, visit: http://citycampnc.org/.
