Mr. Maassen was an appellate prosecutor, then clerked for appellate judges, and has been with his current law firm for over 30 years. He defends clients sued for products liability, mass torts, and a variety of insured and self-insured clients, including Madison County, IL. He has briefed and argued more than 100 cases before both State Supreme Courts and Federal Courts of Appeal, and is admitted to practice in IL, MO and IN. He has been particularly active in asbestos litigation defense, representing 90 clients in various jurisdictions. Mr. Maassen is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and the International Association of Defense Counsel, as well as numerous other Bar Associations in IL and MO. He is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Mr. Maassen was born on May 2, 1951 in Clifton Springs, New York and obtained a B.A. from Central College in Pella, Iowa in 1973 and a J.D. from Valparaiso University in 1977, where he was managing editor of the Law Review. He is active in charitable organizations involving early childhood and people with disabilities, including terms as President of Illinois Easter Seal Society, and President of the Board of Directors of Alton Day Care and Learning Center. He is former clerk of session of his Presbyterian Church, and in his spare time enjoys golf and travel.
