Husband & Wife Prepare for Fight Against Celebrity Diets
New Website Speaks Out Against Pro-Anorexia Culture
San Dimas, CA, October 17, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Tired of super skinny celebrities glamorizing eating disorders and the recent surge of websites promoting anorexia as a valid lifestyle choice, a California couple decided to do something about it. Tara Hayes, in recovery from anorexia and bulimia, and her husband Matt launched Pale Reflections, a website to promote recovery from eating disorders and help combat the alarming trend of pro-anorexia sites on the Web.
“Given the proliferation of pro-anorexia websites, blogs, and message forums, the introduction of a truthful and reality based site such as Pale Reflections offers an antidote to the glamorization of anorexia and its related eating disorders,” said Marty Lerner PhD, Clinical Director of Milestones in Recovery, an eating disorders treatment center in Cooper City, Florida. “The site joins an elite and small group of sites on the net that offer reliable information and ongoing support.”
Matt Hayes agreed, stating: “The media places too much emphasis on weight and teenagers, who can be particularly susceptible to eating disorders, are constantly being bombarded with images of super-thin models and celebrities. These images and the increase of pro-anorexia websites are worrying trends and we need to be doing more to fight against these sites and to promote healthy lifestyles.”
The Hayes’ are no strangers to how powerful the Internet can be. They met online in 1998 and have been married since 2000. This, along with Tara Hayes’ own experience combating anorexia and bulimia, has helped them develop a unique understanding of what is needed to promote eating disorders awareness in a positive light.
Pale Reflections (www.pale-reflections.com) is an online eating disorders support community re-launched in October 2007. The site offers a wide range of articles, message boards and chat rooms for people affected by anorexia, bulimia and other eating disorders. To schedule an interview with Matt or Tara Hayes call (909) 638-5164 or email matt@pale-reflections.com.
