The raw visual work of painter Allan Wash offers an escape from a world of media overload, technology and consumerism. Wash's paintings reveal an evocative milieu where figurative imagery interplays with organic abstractions that ultimately flow together in flattened space. "Early in my career I was doing photography and discovered the power of primitive cultures, ancient iconography and their visual cues. From that point, I felt my art should reawaken the primal foundational origins all art springs from." Today, Wash creates his canvases amidst a jungle of palm and bougainvillea high above San Diego bay.

His "exotic" vision will be on exhibit this fall, at Agora Gallery in Chelsea. Wash studied painting at the Minneapolis School of Art, prior to working as a leading photographer, graphic designer and art director. He is the recipient of over 160 major creative awards.
