Gideon's Army Proves to be Good Medicine for the Soul
Dallas based gospel group is poised to take Contemporary Gospel to higher heights.
Dallas, TX, January 18, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Armed to the teeth with a “heavenly arsenal, which includes such powerful weaponry as Holy rebel cries and Sanctified war dances, Dallas-based gospel group, Gideon’s Army is taking the concept of Rhythm & Praise – the emphasis on praise – to that rarely attained ‘whole new level’. And, if their live performances are any indication of what’s to come from this bunch, don’t plan on them stopping there.
With a band so talented and so diverse that it can go from as many as 10 pieces (complete with horns) to as few as three without missing a beat, it is perfectly fitting that the vocal powerhouse behind “The Army’s” melodic message of deliverance, salvation, and rejuvenation be, each singly, some of this areas brightest musical forces. The group’s front man and founder, Ian Craig, rounds out the crew and offers a refreshing spin on the role of “spiritual hype man”. With God-founded boldness, natural charisma, and the definite gift of gab, Craig ushers worshipers through each high-energy –- spirit-filled praise session like an old pro.
The sound is an eclectic – inclusive mix of Jazz, R&B, Soul, & Traditional Gospel. And while it is easy to get lost in the music and the lively delivery, one member clarifies, “The most important part of our music is the message. It’s a message of deliverance and salvation. And when you get all that, then God comes in to revive you; to give you back what you lost in your trial. We’re trying to remind people that God is faithful and loving and forgiving and a healing – and just whatever you need – He’s all that. You don’t have to worry about it ‘cause it’s already done! … Ours is a message of hope.”
The group’s devout commitment to spreading God’s message brings to mind visions of small children holding their noses to swallow a spoonful of medicine. Well thanks to creative arrangements and nearly flawless harmonies, there’ll be no nose-holding here. From uplifting hard-hitting anthems like ‘But God’ to heartfelt heart-warming ballads like ‘I Trust You’, this story-telling style ministry is proving to be as popular as it is effective. So, while you may have to stand in line to get it, Gideon’s Army promises to serve their celestial brand of medicine with a spoonful of foot-stompin’, hand-clappin’, tongue-talkin’ sugar.
Even with a growing fan base, to date, there are no definite plans for a Gideon’s Army recorded project. But that shouldn’t keep you from checking them out. Most of their rehearsals are open and they are expected at several venues in coming months. Also, look for them later this year in select cities throughout the Southeast, as there may be a mini-tour in the works. Bottom line: This army’s honest and sincere message -- anchored by the resounding mantra ‘It’s Already Done’ -- is a welcome change from the growing stable of would be hip-hop artists, save a few “Gods” and “Jesus’” strewn throughout their lyrics. This gang seems to be the much-needed real thing going about business as unusual. Gideon’s Army is a delightful gospel experience you don’t want to miss!
