Polar Vortex Could Lead to Solar Vortex, National Energy Marketer Warns

National Energy Marketer Offers Customers Summer Savings.

Miramar, FL, July 02, 2014 --(PR.com)-- After a severe winter blast, one national energy marketer warns this past winter’s record temperatures could be followed by record heat, resulting in another spike in power prices.

The weather phenomenon termed ‘polar vortex’ caught energy retail customers by storm, and sent electricity prices skyrocketing in many parts of the country. Polar vortex is considered an arctic cyclone of extremely cold air that spins counterclockwise around the north and south poles. As a result, many utilities experienced higher costs of service and announced rate hikes of 8% to 25% across the United States.

With the arrival of summer, customers are concerned that they will be hit with a ‘solar vortex’, due to high heat temperatures. Still recovering from winter losses, customers are looking for ways to save money on energy costs.

“Last winter we saw a run up in prices when the jet stream dipped and brought record cold from the Arctic for over two months,” said Joseph Casey, Chief Operating Officer for U.S. Gas & Electric, a Florida-based marketer of electricity and natural gas. “We could see the same jump in prices if air conditioning demand kicks in with record heat.”

Casey said that his company has experienced a higher number of calls from homeowners and businesses inquiring about fixed rate protection, as well as ways to take advantage of solar energy systems and energy-efficient technologies like LED lighting.

U.S. Gas & Electric is one of the largest electricity suppliers to homeowners and businesses in the northeast, serving over 240,000 customers in 11 states. The company provides energy efficiency solutions, including solar energy systems, to help customers reduce their energy bills.
