MAIS Volunteers at 6th Annual Soldiers on the Sound Fishing Tournament
Highland Park, NJ, July 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Soldiers on the Sound (SOS) is an annual fishing tournament with the goal of giving back and honoring the members of our armed forces who have served or are currently serving our country. Members of this non-profit, including representatives from Mid-Atlantic Industrial Services, provide a morning of fishing on their boats, each hosting two or three soldiers, for a fluke fishing tournament which is followed by an afternoon of food, fun, entertainment and prizes.
The Soldiers on the Sound Fishing Tournament is open to any active duty, reservist or retired military members. The event first began in 2009 with 15 volunteer captains and 25 soldiers in attendance. Now celebrating its sixth year, SOS was proud to have 58 volunteer captains and over 150 soldiers in attendance.
The volunteer captains and mates of Soldiers on the Sound, along with their supporters, provide everything from bait to boats and breakfast to BBQ. Generous supporters like Simrad, Accurate, Smith Outdoors and Redi Rig donate all types of great prizes, which are raffled off at the end of the day.
Mike Smedley Sr., Contract Manager at Mid-Atlantic Industrial Services, along with his son Mike Smedley Jr. founded Team Old School, a professional fishing team from the East Coast that volunteers at Soldiers on the Sound.
After an exciting shotgun start, Team Old School took to the water where they hosted several military members including a young serviceman about to be deployed overseas and a Marine Master Sergeant.Team Old School and its sponsors are proud to be part of an event that honors our troops and will continue to participate for years to come.
