Atlas Ergonomics Brings Interstate Distributors Fast, Significant Decrease in Driver Claims, Discomfort
Grand Haven, MI, October 21, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Within 9 months of working with drivers, Workers' Compensation claims dropped 22% and severe driver discomfort was cut by nearly half, according to Interstate Distributor Company of Tacoma WA and Atlas Ergonomics of Grand Haven MI.
The process started one year ago, when Interstate and Atlas began working together to implement Atlas' innovative technology. The technology helps drivers focus on proper use of existing seat and steering column adjustments, to avoid discomfort and the risk of injury.
As of June 30, 2007, approximately 50% of the Interstate fleet of 3,000 drivers had completed implementation of the Atlas program. Surveys of participating drivers indicated a 45% drop in individuals experiencing high or extreme levels of discomfort.
More importantly, Interstate realized a 22% reduction in Workers' Compensation claims for sprains and strains. Correspondingly, the company enjoyed a 44% reduction in claim costs, and a 22% reduction in the average cost per claim.
"Driver participation in the program is voluntary and, frankly, it started out slower than we expected," stated Tammy Warn, Vice President of Risk Management for Interstate. "However, as our drivers used the technology and felt the difference, interest in the service increased significantly.
"With only an estimated 50% implementation rate through June, we were surprised by the financial impact. In short, we have seen a payback on our initial investment in roughly four to five months."
Ms. Warn went on to say, "The system is simple to implement and more effective than originally anticipated. Both our drivers and our bottom line have felt its impact."
Interstate plans to continue implementation with the balance of the fleet over the next number of months.
