National Lekotek Center Announces New Sensory Sensitivity Product by Undercover Tape

Chicago, IL, July 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The National Lekotek Center is a toy lending library and resource center for children with special needs and their families.

The National Lekotek Center has collaborated with Undercover Tape to make families aware of a resource that can help their children with sensory sensitivities and disabilities such as autism, Asperger’s and sensory processing disorder make their lives better.

The National Lekotek Center includes a network of experts proficient at finding and evaluating products for kids with disabilities. As a non-profit dedicated to serving children with special needs and their families, Lekotek partners with manufacturers to reveal the features and benefits of their products as it relates to this specialized market. The goal of Lekotek is to help consumers find products that will enhance the lives and experiences of children with special needs and to assist companies in relating and communicating their message to this market.

Undercover Tape was created by moms on a mission. Michele Naftal and Michelle Isrow wanted to solve a problem that many parents and individuals experience- pesky tabs, irritating seams and itchy sequins on clothing. The solution to this problem was Undercover Tape. These self-adhesive strips cover irritating seams, tags, labels, and more. Undercover Tape is designed to work with all types of clothing including sports jerseys, costumes, socks and underwear.

Hayley Anderson, Manager of Family Services & Partnerships at the National Lekotek Center stated, “It is important for Lekotek to provide our families with not only toys for children with special needs, but also resources like Undercover Tape to help them find solutions. Undercover Tape can be so helpful to daily routines like getting dressed. An itchy tag could put a kink in the entire morning for a family that has a child with sensory issues. Products like Undercover Tape give families the power to get out the door on time without meltdowns about itchy clothing.”

More and more children are being diagnosed with sensory processing disorder or “sensory sensitivities.” As a result, there is a major trend in the toy industry to create sensory-enriched products. Children with sensory processing difficulties sometimes have heightened awareness or sensory defensiveness. Because of this, simple tasks may become overwhelming. Caregivers are searching for products that can assist with those situations and help children with special needs gain a measure of control over their environment. Lekotek believes the Children with Special Needs market needs to be aware of products that can solve big or small challenges in their children’s life like Undercover Tape.

Undercover Tape has potential within the special needs market whose size is reflected in the fact that 1 in 6 children experience sensory challenges sufficient to disrupt their academic, social, and/or emotional development.
