Citrix Online Works with PURE to Offset Carbon
Major milestone in Citrix Onlineās bid to reduce its carbon emissions
Chalfont, United Kingdom, October 24, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Citrix Online, a leading provider in EMEA of real-time remote access and online collaboration services, and a division of Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), today announces that it has worked with PURE, the Clean Planet Trust and UK-registered charity (No.1112249), to offset carbon generated by the EMEA-based business. This marks a significant milestone in Citrix Online’s campaign to reduce overall carbon emissions.
Citrix Online worked with PURE to measure its carbon footprint between September 2006 to August 2007. This was calculated in respect of Citrix Online’s regional direct energy usage and electricity, and also business travel by air and road, in accordance with the relevant scopes of the World Resources Institute Greenhouse Gas Protocol, the most widely used international accounting tool to understand, quantify and manage greenhouse gas emissions.
To offset its emissions, Citrix Online has made a cash donation to PURE. The charity will use the donation to financially support Kyoto emissions projects around the world by buying their carbon credits. PURE then cancels these credits, removing them from carbon trading schemes and therefore limiting the amount of carbon dioxide that polluters are allowed to release into the atmosphere.
The Citrix Online EMEA-based group is now working closely with PURE to roll out a number of initiatives to further engage employees and reduce the overall carbon footprint of the European-based business.
Simon Presswell, Regional Vice President, Citrix Online Division, EMEA, said, “The Citrix Online products GoToMeeting and GoToMyPC enable businesses to effectively work and collaborate remotely, and throughout the company we use our own tools to keep travel costs to a minimum. Citrix Online is committed to reducing its carbon emissions even further and our partnership with PURE marks an important stage in our programme to achieve this.”
“Every business has a role to play in reducing carbon emissions,” said Phil Wolski of PURE. “Offsetting those residual emissions that can’t or won’t be reduced is, of course, the final step to be taken after measurement and reduction of those emissions that can. We are looking forward to helping Citrix Online and its employees further develop its programme of tangible emission reductions that will make significant and lasting changes throughout their organisation to reduce their overall carbon footprint, and encourage their clients and partners to share their positive experiences.”
