Medford-Based Jewelry Startup Creates Jobs for Latin Women
Esmeralda Lambert empowers and employs women artisans in Dominican Republic.
Medford, MA, August 01, 2014 --(PR.com)-- When entrepreneur Esmeralda Lambert founded her namesake jewelry brand she had two major goals - to meet a consumer need for quality lightweight statement jewelry and to create jobs for women in her home country, Dominican Republic (D.R.). Since launching the company from her Medford, MA home in early 2013, she has achieved both.
About half a dozen women artisans now work part time from their homes in D.R. to hand weave Esmeralda Lambert’s lightweight jewelry, designed with Latin and Caribbean influences, using fine crystals, natural stones, pearls, sterling silver and gold-filled findings. Alongside her online store, 20 boutiques in Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New Hampshire now carry the brand’s unique line of bracelets, earrings and necklaces.
“I started this company to satisfy both a personal and a social need, and I couldn’t be happier with what we’ve accomplished so far,” said the company’s CEO and founder Esmeralda Lambert. “We are already selling in three states, and planning to launch in three more—New York, California, and Florida. More importantly, we started with one, and we are now working with six women in the D.R. As we grow, our lead artisans can teach their craft to other women in the community. This ultimately empowers them to create and manage their own teams, while still being able to care for their children and families at home.”
With the support of her family and husband, company co-founder and VP of Marketing Matthew Lambert, Esmeralda Lambert has spent much of the past year personally acquiring wholesale partnerships with high-end boutiques, participating in arts and crafts markets, accessorizing high-fashion catwalks and hosting trunk shows. She also travels to D.R. every two months to collaborate with the lead artisans on new colors, designs and prototypes.
The Esmeralda Lambert collection now includes over 200 unique and elegant statement and bridal jewelry pieces. Many of the designs can also be personalized with unique color combinations for bridal parties.
