Aug. 13 NAWBO Meeting to Feature Local Media Experts
Plan to attend the Aug. 13 meeting of the Phoenix Metro Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO) and learn valuable insights from seven local media experts. The event takes place at the Phoenix County Club (2901 N. 7th Street, Phoenix, 85012) beginning with a NAWBO University Workshop at 9:30 a.m., networking at 10:45 and luncheon/panel presentation at 11:20.

Costs for the Aug. 13 lunch and program are $38 for NAWBO members and $48 for guests. NAWBO University is free for members and $30 for guests. Reservations must be made online by Aug. 8 at www.nawbophx.org.
The media panel will be moderated by Ilana Lowery, editor-in-chief of the Phoenix Business Journal. She is currently serving on the executive board of Gabriel’s Angels and is a member of the prestigious women’s professional associations Charter 100 and Central Phoenix Women.

Hope H. Ozer has over four decades of experience on both sides of the media fence. As assistant manager of public relations and advertising for El Al Israel Airlines in New York City, to her community volunteer years as Valley Youth Theatre’s founder and advocate, she was on the “pitching” side of the media equation. As founder and publisher emeritus of CITYSunTimes, she was on the receiving end.
Denise D. Resnik is the founder and president of the marketing and communications firm, DRA Strategic Communications. She also founded First Place AZ, a nonprofit dedicated to developing new, innovative housing options for adults with autism and related disorders. As a co-founder and board member of Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), Resnik has raised more than $45 million for the cause.
Francis Battaglia is the president and owner of Independent Talk 1100 KFNX, which he has owned and operated for 16 years. Battaglia graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and has been in the radio business for 24 years. He is a Corporate Partner of NAWBO, and member of the Scottsdale and Phoenix Chambers of Commerce, the Arizona Small Business Association, and the Better Business Bureau.
Karina Bland is a longtime award-winning senior reporter at The Arizona Republic and azcentral.com in Phoenix. Her popular column, “My So-Called Midlife,” appears on Sundays. Bland is a two-time graduate from Arizona State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 1987 and a master’s degree in communication in 1997. She went to work for the Mesa Tribune in 1987, was hired by The Phoenix Gazette in 1990, and then hired by the Republic when the papers merged in 1997.
RaeAnne Marsh has been in journalism since 1998, when she helped establish the editorial department of local lifestyle magazine Arizona Corridors. She founded Grammar & Glitz, Inc. in 2002, and has worked with corporations and publications nationwide. In 2010, Marsh ended six years as managing editor of Moving Pictures magazine to become editorial director of Phoenix-based InMedia Company and help launch In Business Magazine.
