NCDOT to Shift U.S. 1/64 Northbound Traffic Entering from Tryon Road

Raleigh, NC, January 20, 2006 --(PR.com)-- The N.C. Department of Transportation has announced that it will temporarily place traffic entering northbound U.S. 1/64 from Tryon Road in a new pattern beginning Saturday, Jan. 21 at 8 a.m. until February 2006, weather permitting. In the new pattern motorists will merge onto U.S. 1/64 just before the Kildaire Farm Road overpass. This pattern will allow for middle and outside lane construction from I-40 to the Kildaire Farm Road overpass.

During this time, NCDOT will also remove the temporary inside lane on northbound U.S. 1/64 from Walnut Street to the I-40 interchange.

The U.S. 1/64 widening project is a $58 million project to improve U.S. 1/64 from south of the I-40 interchange to the U.S. 64/Tryon Road interchange in Cary. The project is anticipated to be complete in late 2006, weather permitting.

The NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert, obey the posted speed limit of 55 mph, be aware of construction workers and watch signs for construction information. The fine for speeding in the work zone is $250 and violators may receive three driver license points.
