DRC Mining Industry Awards to Celebrate Top Companies and Individuals in Mining Sector in October
This year’s tenth edition of the annual iPAD DRC Mining & Infrastructure Indaba will see the launch of the DRC Mining Industry Awards during a gala dinner on 22 October at Hotel Memling in Kinshasa.
Kinshasa, Congo (Kinshasa), August 22, 2014 --(PR.com)-- This year’s tenth edition of the annual iPAD DRC Mining & Infrastructure Indaba will see the launch of the DRC Mining Industry Awards during a gala dinner on 22 October at Hotel Memling in Kinshasa. “To celebrate the success and the loyalty of our event participants during the past 10 years, we are proud to launch the DRC Mining Industry Awards, recognising excellence within the mining sector and rewarding companies and individuals who have made a significant contribution to the industry,” says event director Nicole Smith.
She adds: “We want to invite the public to take part in the nomination process and there are seven categories to choose from. We look forward to a glamorous, sold-out event, honouring the leading lights in mining.”
iPAD DRC’s Nicole Smith explains: “We have an expert panel of 11 judges, including representatives from Ernst & Young, Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and civil society. Nominations are open to everyone and we look forward to receiving many names as there are many worthy candidates which we believe should be considered, given the magnitude of the mining sector and the enormous contribution that it has made to the country.”
DRC Mining Industry Awards categories:
• Lifetime Achievement Award
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual for achievements which have made an outstanding contribution to and impact on the DRC’s mining industry, whether from a public or private company or institution.
• Best performer in Environmental Management
This award celebrates the accomplishments within the past year of an individual in a senior position from a mining house who has implemented programme/s that are excellent examples of the integration of environmental management into the core business strategy and continue to champion sustainable environmental practices.
• Best performer in Occupational Health and Safety
This award celebrates the mining project that has excelled in promoting an holistic health and safety culture, in compliance with regulations and standards.
• Best performer in Social Investment
This award celebrates the mining house that has excelled in implementing a clear social investment framework that provides a catalyst for development, namely one that establishes an agenda for the future; assesses priorities for development; ensures compatible land uses; resolves land use conflicts and engages local communities in CSR planning
• Best performer in Innovation
Award for the mining house that has rolled out state of the art mining technology and innovation creating production efficiency and streamlined processes.
• Best performer in Engineering
This is awarded to the EPCM company that has been involved with a mining project over the last two years and has exhibited the highest quality of engineering and design. The recipient of this award is recognised for effective study and/or project management skills, working within budget and deadline to provide their client with the most optimal and efficient mining and/or processing application.
• Mining Company of the Year
This award celebrates the mining company who overall has achieved top results in terms of output, cost savings, employee satisfaction, innovation and contributed to the overall development and growth of the sector in the DRC.
The DRC’s Chamber of Mines has given its full support to the initiative while the leading mining publication and portal, Mining Review Africa, is the official media partner for the DRC Mining Industry Awards.
