Fecteau: "Cicilline and I Did Not Debate"

Providence, RI, August 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Statement from Congressman David Cicilline’s Democratic congressional opponent Matt Fecteau:

"Referencing August 20th’s Providence Journal article 'Candidates in 1st Congressional District air views in debate at Laurelmead,' despite the headline and content of the article, Congressman Cicilline and I did not debate.

"The executive Director of Laurelmead Cooperative, Craig Evans, acknowledged this throughout – we have video also – the event and all the candidates acknowledged this. This was not a debate, but a forum to express views. I also explained this to the author of the article too.

"To simplify things further, Merriam-Webster defines a debate as the following: 'a regulated discussion of a proposition between two matched sides.' This certainly did not occur as any time I attempted to engage Congressman Cicilline, we were told this was not a debate.

"If there is any question of whether this forum was considered a debate, please contact Laurelmead Cooperative and they will acknowledge a debate did not occur."
