Waste Management Awards OKC Beautiful with Think Green® Grant
Eight communities nationwide receive grants of $10,000 to support local projects.
Oklahoma City, OK, September 10, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Keep America Beautiful (KAB) and Waste Management announced that OKC Beautiful will receive a 2014 Think Green® Grant. OKC Beautiful’s Think Green® Grant is one of eight $10,000 grants awarded to KAB community-based affiliates across the country.
The Waste Management Think Green® Grants are part of the environmental services company’s commitment to encourage the development and sustainability of environmental solutions that improve community environments. These merit-based grants support projects such as OKC Beautiful’s Waste Reduction Challenge, raising awareness about recycling to residents, schools and the business community, with a goal of starting recycling programs in five public schools and three large businesses and increasing the community diversion rate by 2 percent.
“In Oklahoma City, 31 percent of residents recycle, with a diversion rate of only 5 percent, well below the national average of 35 percent,” said OKC Beautiful Executive Director Lisa Synar. “We are looking forward to working with Waste Management and the City of Oklahoma City to provide education about the importance and ease of recycling.”

Waste Management has supported KAB programs for several years and is active in KAB’s flagship programs such as the Great American Cleanup and America Recycles Day. Waste Management also supports the KAB/Ad Council public service advertising campaign – I Want To Be Recycled – that is helping educate people about the importance of recycling and motivating the occasional recycler to become an everyday recycler.
