Matthew 25: Ministries Delivers Truckload of Water to Victims of Drought in East Porterville, CA

California Drought Causes Shortage of Water in Rural Area.

Cincinnati, OH, September 04, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Matthew 25: Ministries, an international humanitarian aid and disaster relief organization located in Cincinnati, OH, is sending a truckload of water (approximately 20 pallets holding 1,500 cases) to victims of severe drought in East Porterville, CA about 52 miles north of Bakersfield. California is in the midst of a multi-year drought. One of the most harmful effects of this drought is an escalating lack of water for residents in the affected areas. An estimated 182 of the 1,400 homes in East Porterville have no water at all or are suffering from a severe shortage of water. Approximately 36% of the population in East Porterville lives in poverty. Unemployment rates are among the highest in the state. Most of the homes in the affected town have their own individual wells for drinking water and other uses and water officials are suggesting that the current crisis may be partially due to the shallow depth of some of the wells in the area. The wells are replenished by the Tule River groundwater, so because of the drought, the river is not maintaining sufficient levels of water to refill the wells.

In 2014, Matthew 25: Ministries’ Disaster Response Program has responded to disasters including the chemical spill in West Virginia, tornadoes in Nebraska, Arkansas and Mississippi and derecho wind damage in Arkansas with more than 30 truckloads of aid. Additionally, Matthew 25 continues to ship aid to victims of the Philippines typhoon. Matthew 25: Ministries is constantly monitoring its readiness to meet the needs of a sudden disaster and is prepared to respond to crises domestically and internationally where the magnitude of the disaster taxes the capabilities of local and regional relief organizations or where on-the-ground partners request assistance. The truckload of water will be distributed in East Porterville on September 7th from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Matthew 25: Ministries accepts cash, credit card and internet donations for ongoing disaster aid and humanitarian relief programs. More than 99% of Matthew 25: Ministries’ cash and in-kind donations go toward programs. All designated funds are used for the purpose intended.
