Smoothie King Center Arena Facelift
New Orleans, LA, September 04, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Smoothie King Center Arena is receiving a modern facelift as part of the $50 million dollar interior/exterior renovation package. 700 to 800 gallons of paint will be used to repaint 100k square feet of exterior surface. The new colors will be coordinated with that of New Orleans’ new basketball team (The Pelicans).
Only two painting contractors chose to bid this work. JMA Painters, LLC was selected and has taken on the challenge for this high performance coating project that is only accessible by very large boom lifts. The workers will be 20 -100 feet in the air to paint the building. After the original paint manufacturer was changed halfway through the project, a new one had to be found, causing a 3 week delay in production on this fast-track (12 week) project.
“We’re really excited to be working with Citadel Builders on one of the larger and most recognizable buildings in the New Orleans area. It’s a challenging project because the locations of the surfaces to be painted are difficult to access. Also, It’s going to be really tough losing those 3 weeks, but we’re looking at ways to make the schedule happen,” explained Jason Thibodeaux of JMA Painters.
The strict project deadline is in effect so that all work is complete before the upcoming Katy Perry concert at the Smoothie King Center Arena in early October. Project changes in combination with the high temperatures and constant rain have proven to be additional challenges for meeting this deadline.
“It has been raining almost every day in New Orleans, which is a difficult factor for exterior painting in general, but even bigger when all surfaces are exposed to the elements; however, we are working on logistics and production to finish in a timely manner,” stated Thibodeaux.
The new color should appear in early September.
