Teen City Stage and Providence Day School Announce a New Home for Team Broadway
Organizations partner in support of Charlotte teens theater skill development program.
Charlotte, NC, September 05, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Teen City Stage and Providence Day School are thrilled to announce that they have partnered together to bring Team Broadway to Charlotte Area Teens for its second season. Team Broadway is a musical theater performance based skill-development program for intermediate to advanced level teen performers across the Charlotte area,
In weekly rehearsal sessions instructed by the award winning, professional directing team of Linda Booth and Lori Anne Sword, students will strengthen vocal, dance and character development skills. The Team Broadway season will culminate with students performing in a Full Production of a Broadway Musical to which industry professionals and BFA college recruiters will be invited. Students will also have the opportunity to perform at competition in Los Angeles in a cut of the production as well as in an original musical theater revue in early February.
“We have a fantastic performing and visual arts program here at Providence Day, and we welcome this partnership with Teen City Stage as another way to support our community's young artists," said Dr. Glyn Cowlishaw, Head of School. "Participation in the arts helps students discover new talents, contribute to a group effort, gain self-confidence, and develop leadership skills. We look forward to an inspiring 2014-15 season.”
Team Broadway will be under the musical supervision of Charlotte’s very own Bill Congdon, who was most recently Musical Director for the national and international tours of “Billy Elliot” as well as Musical Director and Conductor for the national tour of “Mamma Mia!”.
“We are excited to have Bill Congdon with us for another season with Team Broadway”, said Lori Anne Sword, Artistic Director of Teen City Stage. She added, “Bill’s own roots in Charlotte and incredible success demonstrate that the rewards that a young person gains by participating in a performing arts program can make a significant difference in achievement of school, career and personal goals, and we are so glad that PDS shares that vision with us and has opened their beautiful theater to teens from all around the Charlotte region.”
Team Broadway rehearsals will take place at Providence Day School, at 5800 Sardis Road, and culminate in three performances of their Production on January 30, 31 and February 1 in the McMahon Fine Arts Center Theater on campus. Please visit www.teencitystage.com for more information.
