Sustainable Environmental Education Kickstarts Campaign to Grow Funds for New Program
Whittier, CA, September 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Sustainable Environmental Education (SEE), a 501(c)(3) organization, has launched its first 60-day campaign on Indiegogo.com as part of its fundraising plan of raising $10,000 to launch its newest program - SEE My Garden Grow - in an effort to provide support and self-esteem for adults with developmental challenges.
SEE My Garden Grow is taught in a college-class format, and is designed to help increase social skills, mechanical skills, sense of belonging, and pride of ownership for a segment of society that is often overlooked after childhood.
Nick Federoff, CEO and gardening expert, said, "Far too often, adults with disabilities or challenges fall through the cracks of the government system. Classes and support abound during their schooling years, but then they are essentially forgotten by the government after age 26. They are often placed into day care programs that keep them busy, but provide no mental stimulation or room for growth. Gardening bridges this gap. But we are not just another gardening program. SEE aims to activate mind, hands, and heart."
Federoff supports his claim to be not just another gardening program by emphasizing how his program leads students through the process of learning from seed to flower, providing them choice, ability to create and display their work, and develops pride in making something beautiful from their own efforts.
Horticultural therapy has long been known to promote a sense of calm in autistic adults by reducing anxiety and frustration through the stable, peaceful action of gardening. But Federoff raises the expectations of his program from simply providing peace, to providing manual dexterity and self-esteem in addition to the mental well-being.
All funds raised within the next 45 days will provide not only the seed money to begin purchasing the necessary supplies and setting up the facility at the Things Green Learning Center in Whittier, CA, but will provide a basis for future grant support from foundations throughout the country.
