As a love coach and adviser to the lesbian community for over 13 years now, Elgin states that she is offering this special event via the internet and telephone "Because most mature, middle income lesbians - ages 35 to 75 - are completely under served in the love marketplace. This is true despite the fact they are engaged consumers in today's economy. So what's the disconnect? I believe it's because we are busy like everyone else in today's fast paced world and we have several additional real world obstacles, such as:
- "Being a minority within a micro-minority that tends not to live, work and/or attend events regularly in the big cities like gay men do (yes, that is a minority within a minority group that is already very small and also tends to be discriminated against because of a taboo subject - sex)
- "Lesbians lack visible, high quality, healthy alternatives to connect
- "It is very difficult for a business that wants to primarily serve lesbians in a healthy way to survive in today's economy, due to all of these issues."
Elgin says, "The bottom line is the lack of a strong, connecting link that brings together coupled women who are either in a lasting lesbian relationship or want to be, and single women who are long-term relationship oriented and who are healthy and self aware enough themselves to desire support for healthier living and loving. The link and service I've created to bring this subset of the lesbian world together and to serve them well is called Lasting Lesbian Love Sisterhood."
Elgin says, "I would define healthy as taking back our power as consumers to support those lesbian-focused businesses that help us become healthier and happier in the long term, not just in the short term. Without me being more specific, I think savvy, heart-centered lesbians know what I mean. Because of these various issues, I meet lesbian women via my work and in my personal life each week who are very frustrated. Some had businesses serving the lesbian community in a healthy way that have failed. Some have even given up the search for love and have resigned themselves to singlehood. And others are unhappy in their current relationship and don't know what to do about it (or they have tried other avenues of support for their relationship without success)."
