Fecteau: Congratulations Congressman Cicilline

"I called Congressman David Cicilline to congratulate him on his victory. His hardworking staff deserves a great deal of credit for his victory tonight as well. I wish them all the best." - Fecteau

Providence, RI, September 12, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Statement from former Democratic Congressional Candidate Matt Fecteau:
“I called Congressman David Cicilline to congratulate him on his victory. His hardworking staff deserves a great deal of credit for his victory tonight as well. I wish them all the best.

“I want to thank all my staff, volunteers, and supporters. We worked hard and kept on fighting despite the odds. In total, we spent just about $5,000 to pull in roughly 38% of the vote – not a bad first run and I certainly could not have done it without your tremendous support.

“I would also like to express gratitude to members of the media, and if I do not mention you by name, please forgive me. With little money and little name recognition, you gave me a shot. I am sincerely, sincerely grateful to GoLocalProv and Kate Nagel for their support and will be forever grateful they gave me a platform while asking little in return.

“To Newport Daily News, Newport This Week, the Providence Journal, RINPR and the many other media outlets, thank you so much for your support. To Coalition Radio, the Dan Yorke Show, Tony Jones, John DePetro, Ted Nesi, Bill Rappleye, Mark Curtis, and Ian Donnis, thank you for giving this simple soldier a chance to be heard.

“Our state and country face seemingly insurmountable challenges and we appear all too willing to criticize the political system. Unfortunately, we are at fault. If we do not like the political system, we need to actively seek to change it whether by running for office or by merely voting. I would like to say that there was an election today, but voter turnout is expected once again only to be 14%. This is not a democracy.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to start a nonprofit organization directed at getting more people involved in politics and expanding voter turnout. This nonpartisan organization, called ChangeRI, will give vetted candidates a fairer chance by providing them with critical resources.

Once again, thank you so much for everything. This experience has been one of a kind and I am humbled to have such a tremendous showing for a first time candidate and you can expect to hear from me in the future.”
