More Injuries for Dave Johnson in High Speed Crash at Donington Park
British Superbike Rider, Australian-born "Davo" Johnson, is injured but says he was lucky the accident wasn't worse.
London, United Kingdom, September 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Australian rider David Johnson had more bad luck in Round 9 of the British Superbike Superstock 1000 Championship at Donington Park on Sunday 7th September, incurring further injuries.
Conditions at the race circuit were sunny and dry, but in an incident at Redgate, Johnson clipped wheels with another rider and Johnson’s bike slid out from under him. Both rider and bike skated dramatically across track and grass at 120-130mph, crashing into the safety barrier.
Johnson, who is sponsored by bike insurance specialist Complete Cover Group and rides for PR Racing’s Kawasaki team, suffered a broken wrist, black eye and severe bruising over his whole body.
Although in pain, Johnson looked on the bright side. “I’m a very lucky boy! It could have been a lot worse if I’d gone into the wall head first,” he said the following day.
How will the injury affect the rest of Johnson’s season? He suffered a cracked rib at Snetterton in June, but was back in the saddle barely two weeks later at Knockhill, winning a coveted third place podium position. A broken wrist may take longer to mend, however. Time will tell whether he’ll make it back in time for the TT at Assen on 19th September.
Mark Copper, Head of Business at Complete Cover, expressed his relief that injury-prone Johnson was not more seriously hurt. “David keeps giving us these scares! It’s certainly been a roller-coaster season, full of thrills and spills,” he said. “We’re thankful he’ll be ok and wish him all the best for a speedy recovery.”
