Russian Pianist Plays Mozart with Minnesota Sinfonia

Non-profit kicks off 26th season with classical performance at St. Paul Johnson High School and Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis.

Minneapolis, MN, September 19, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Minnesota Sinfonia presents Polonsky Plays Mozart featuring pianist Anna Polonsky performing Mozart’s Concerto No. 19 in F Major, K. 459 on Friday, October 17 in St. Paul and Sunday, October 19 in Minneapolis. The Minnesota Sinfonia is a Minnesota-based non-profit dedicated to serving the musical needs of Minnesotans, focusing on children, seniors and those with limited financial means.

Polonsky made her solo piano debut at the Special Central Music School in Moscow, Russia. Since then she has become a widely demanded soloist and chamber musician appearing with major orchestras including, but not limited to, the Moscow Virtuosi, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the Memphis Symphony. Her collaborations include the Schumann Trio, Chamber Music Northwest festival, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and many more. She is consistently noted for her captivating performances and flawless technique.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 17 at Johnson High School in St. Paul and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 19 at the Basilica of Saint Mary in Minneapolis. Admission is free and children are always welcome to attend. Audience members should arrive early—all concerts are first-come, first-seated.

The Minnesota Sinfonia will also premiere Linda Tutas Haugen’s Variations on a Norwegian Folk Tune, which is supported by a grant from the McKnight Foundation.

Haugen received her degree in Music from St. Olaf College and her Masters degree in Music Composition and Theory from the University of Minnesota. She has written critically acclaimed works for chamber ensembles, choir, opera and orchestras.

Also on the program will be Sinfonia performances of Gioachino Rossini’s Overture to Cinderella and Antonin Dvorak’s Czech Suite.
