"The Flip Sides of the Coin" by Cesar Lazo Investigates How the Institutions of a Democracy Were Subverted to Tyranny in the 1990s Peru
The Fremont Film Forum will be presenting the film "The Flip Sides of the Coin" by Cesar Lazo. This documentary film unravels the tale of how a professor and a disgraced minor military officer together orchestrated levels of corruption and political assassinations unprecedented in Peru's history. In the early 1990's, President of Peru Alberto Fujimori and head of National Security Vladimiro Montesinos seized dictatorial powers and deconstructed democracy in Peru.
San Jose, CA, November 16, 2007 --(PR.com)-- The Fremont Film Forum will be presenting the film "The Flip Sides of the Coin" by Cesar Lazo. This documentary film unravels the tale of how a professor and a disgraced minor military officer together orchestrated levels of corruption and political assassinations unprecedented in Peru's history. In the early 1990's, President of Peru Alberto Fujimori and head of National Security Vladimiro Montesinos seized dictatorial powers, establishing an alliance with corrupt military commanders, shutting down the Peruvian Congress, and taking control of the judiciary branch.
"The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands," said James Madison, "may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny." Flip Sides of the Coin investigates how the institutions of a democracy were subverted to such a tyranny.
Cesar will be hosting a one hour discussion of the film after the viewing. General public are welcome to the discussion.
