AIM Rx Forms Partnership with the FH Foundation to Help Promote Awareness About the Disease
To coincide with global FH Awareness Day, AIM Rx announces its partnership with the FH Foundation to help promote awareness of the disease. The healthcare marketing agency is spearheading an online patient and physician engagement project for the foundation.
Blue Bell, PA, September 30, 2014 --(PR.com)-- As the world marked FH Awareness Day Sept. 24, AIM Rx announces its new partnership with the FH Foundation. The healthcare marketing agency is developing an audience engagement portal for the foundation, a nonprofit, patient-centric organization dedicated to raising awareness of familial hypercholesterolemia (FH).
FH is an easily inherited disorder that leads to aggressive and premature cardiovascular disease. FH patients are 20 times more likely to have premature heart disease leading to heart attack, the No. 1 killer of women and men across the globe.
Ian Houck, director of client relations for AIM Rx, said the FH patient and physician engagement project will incorporate online networking and provide a support group for patients and caregivers, as well as a forum for health care providers. “We are especially honored to be working with the FH Foundation to increase awareness, offering a service to those impacted by this life-threatening genetic condition and to health care practitioners dedicated to treating FH.”
He explained that FH is a condition that is vastly under-diagnosed. Approximately 90 percent of those in the United States with FH have never been accurately diagnosed or treated. However, effective therapies are available that have been proven to reduce the risk of early cardiovascular disease if individuals are treated early and consistently.
Katherine Wilemon, founder and president of the FH Foundation, is an FH patient herself. After suffering from and surviving a heart attack at age 38, Wilemon decided to devote her life to raising awareness of this common genetic disorder and saving lives of those impacted by it. “The mission of our foundation is to raise awareness of FH through education, advocacy and research,” she said. “Patients and caregivers with a chronic condition need private venues to share and learn from each other. And healthcare providers want greater insight into the patient experience. The FH Foundation is pleased that AIM Rx will help us facilitate the roll-out of an online community.”
Houck said this project is all about the “360-degree patient journey” and the role that technology, particularly social media, plays. “AIM Rx works behind the scenes to help make information available to patients and others,” he said, “keeping them connected every step of the way, from diagnosis to treatment. It’s a two-way dialogue.” He noted that AIM Rx keeps tabs on FDA regulations — with new social media guidelines expected soon — to help its clients ensure compliant communications.
He added that the project is a perfect example of the custom digital technology solutions that AIM Rx provides for its clients. “We don’t have a one-size-fits-all model,” he said. “We don’t use templates. We build custom tools for our clients.” The types of projects AIM Rx develop range from digital strategies to custom mobile applications, social engagement communities and internal/external portals.
Houck sees the opportunity for AIM Rx to work with other nonprofits, as well as pharmaceutical companies. He said online marketing is becoming increasingly important to pharmaceutical companies, which have created digital centers of excellence. More recently, he said, companies are including digital in their brand strategy. “That’s what we do best — marry digital strategy with custom technology.”
