Shelter Hope Pet Shop Commemorating Over 1000 Lives Saved
Over a Thousand Dogs Adopted. Shelter Hope Pet Shop at Janss Marketplace Celebrates 3-Year Anniversary with Calendar Release. Volunteers go naked to bring awareness to animal adoption.
Los Angeles, CA, October 06, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Animal rescue group Shelter Hope is commemorating its 3rd anniversary Oct. 12 with the unveiling of “Saved by the Belles,” a whimsical 2015 calendar featuring full-color photos of the shop’s lovely lady volunteers and the pets who love them.
Shelter Hope Founder Kim Sill, a nationally recognized animal rescue expert and activist, was inspired by a group of prim-and-proper British women who bared all for charity. Their 1999 “Calendar Girls” made several million for Leukemia Research and led to a 2003 movie starring Helen Mirren.
“My volunteers and I were so desperate to get attention for the underdogs, we got naked and made a calendar,” Sill quipped.
Like the British version, Shelter Hope’s calendar is PG-Rated. While the British women were photographed behind strategically placed homemaking gadgets and flower pots, Sill and her ladies made clever use of their pets to keep the censors happy.
“Our goal isn’t to get Helen Mirren to play me in a movie but to raise awareness about pet adoption and the atrocious kill-rates at animal shelters,” Sill said. “Approximately one million dogs and cats enter California’s shelters each year, and over half of them are euthanized simply because there are not enough homes.”
Attendees at the anniversary celebration will be able to buy the calendar for $20, with all proceeds going into the effort to save death-row dogs.
Sill is a tireless advocate who has dedicated her life to saving animals. She depends on a band of like-minded volunteers to work with the dogs at the shop and assist her in acquiring rescue dogs.
“The volunteers keep coming and helping,” Sill said. “We are blessed.”
Sill also relies on the generosity of others. The Cusumano family of Burbank paid for the calendar and NewMark Merrill Companies President and CEO Sandy Sigal doesn’t charge Sill rent the not-for-profit shop at Janss Marketplace.
“I am humbled that Sandy opened up his mall to the animals,” Sill said. All the shops at Janss have also gotten involved in helping us save dogs. It takes a village, and at Janss, we have a lot of animal lovers.”
Sandy Sigal notes, "We strongly believe in supporting the community and we are pleased to know we can help the pets in our community as well."
