Funding Granted for Molestation Prevention

ReInventing The Cycle has been granted $40,000 from the Honor Project to distribute Project S.T.O.P. (Stop The Oppressive Predator) molestation prevention program to 240 elementary schools throughout Ohio.

Cleveland, OH, October 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Beginning this fall, more than 200 elementary school classrooms across the state of Ohio will have access to proactive educational curriculum about how to prevent child molestation.

The curriculum — called Project S.T.O.P. — was founded by non-profit organization ReInventing The Cycle (RITC). RITC was awarded a competitive $40,000 grant from the Honor Project Trust that allows for its distribution into third-grade classes across the state of Ohio this school year.

“Child molestation has been ignored long enough. Too many children fall victim to these heinous acts, and we need schools to start taking proactive measures. Project S.T.O.P. is a great way to start protecting kids,” said Cathy DuBois, President and CEO of RITC.

Along with 226 other organizations, RITC and Project S.T.O.P. were chosen to receive Honor Project grants from among 2,000 organizations that applied for funding.

Project S.T.O.P. is sensitive enough to be taught in schools and direct enough to empower children to keep themselves safe from molestation or to get help to stop it. The curriculum includes an interactive video, doll and lesson plan. The adult leading the course will act as a facilitator by assisting children to practice the skills being taught by the instructor in the video.

According to the national Center for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four girls and one in six boys will have experienced sexual abuse by the time they turn 18 years old.

“We know that education is a major component in molestation prevention, so we have developed this program, which will teach children skills that can stop or prevent victimization,” DuBois said.

Educators and/or parents wishing to learn more about the curriculum or to purchase the molestation prevention children’s book, When the Stranger to LOOK OUT for Isn’t a Stranger, should visit reinventingthecycle.org for more information, including a video overview of Project S.T.O.P. or email Cathy.DuBois@ReInventingTheCycle.org.
