Poppy Project Visits Cambrian Heritage Railways Museum

Oswestry, United Kingdom, October 11, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Selected students from the Art Department of Walford and North Shropshire College (WNSC) visited the World War One exhibition at the Cambrian Heritage Railways (CHR) on Tuesday 7th October; their visit to the exhibition is linked to the Poppy Project which is currently under way at WNSC.

The Poppy Project involves students from WNSC creating 53 ceramic poppies for an art installation on the College grounds, the poppies will each represent the 53 men from the Cambrian Railways Company whose names are recorded on the Oswestry War Memorial and the Cambrian Railways Company Roll of Honour who fought and died in WWI.

This visit was an opportunity for the students to see the WWI Exhibition which puts the creation of the poppies into context, highlighting the importance of remembering and commemorating the centenary year. CHR communication team member Andrew Tullo and volunteer historian Alex Davies introduced and guided the students around the exhibition, showing the students items dating back to the WWI era.
