Chinese Education Officials Visit ISA to Gain Knowledge on Bilingual Education

Scottsdale, AZ, October 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Education officials from the People’s Republic of China visited the International School of Arizona (ISA) to meet with its top administrators and learn about the unique challenges of operating a bilingual program at the early education and primary grade levels.

The meetings, which took place October 14 and were organized partly by the U.S. Department of State, included six representatives from various Chinese governmental and educational institutions and three ISA administrative directors. The meetings occurred at a time when more foreign governments are seeking to expand bilingual education with an English component and are visiting American educational institutions with experience in world-class multilingual programs.

“We believe in helping others on their path to implementing successful bilingual educational programs,” said ISA Head of School Michelle Borie. “It fosters new relationships, opportunities and connections. And ultimately, it allows ISA to forge forward on its mission of preparing students to become global leaders in a diverse and nurturing environment.”

Founded in 1997, ISA runs French/English and Spanish/English programs and fully immerses students in their chosen language specialty. The school has been accredited by the U.S. (AdvancED), France (French Ministry of Education) and Spain (Instituto Cervantes).

ISA has previously hosted foreign educators and diplomats who wanted an intimate look into these programs.

On July 24 seven individuals from the Republic of Uzbekistan visited the school for a tour and meetings with ISA administration. Members of that delegation included the heads of Uzbekistan’s Department of Higher Education, its Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its departments of Teaching Methods and Practices and General Education and Specialized Schools.

The Chinese and Uzbek delegations visited ISA as part of the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership program. The meetings focused in particular on ISA’s world-class curriculum, its teaching methods and its students’ overall language skills.

About the International School of Arizona ‐ ISA is a private, nonprofit 501(c)(3) Primary and Middle School offering full French and Spanish immersion tracks. ISA was founded in 1997 to fill an unmet need in the Phoenix Metropolitan Area for children to obtain early foreign language learning in a multicultural setting. www.isaz.org.
