The Central Sarasota Farmer’s Market Celebrates Eat Local Week in Sarasota, Florida
Learn All About Local Food, Organic Food, Urban Chickens and Bees in a Special Presentation on October 25.
Sarasota, FL, October 22, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The Central Sarasota Farmer's Market (CSFM) is celebrating Eat Local Week with a special program on Saturday, October 25.
A spin-off of the "Talking with Your Mouth Full" educational audio series, the program starts at 10:15 a.m. with a presentation and discussion led by CSFM co-founder Todd Underhill about the definition of local food and organic food and what to look for as a consumer.
Afterward, Ira Klineschmidt will speak on how to keep urban chickens and bees while keeping your neighbors happy.
Eat Local Week, which will be observed Friday, October 24 through Thursday, October 30, 2014, kicks off the growing season by celebrating the best of local food and farming in Sarasota and Manatee counties.
Underhill is an eighth generation Floridian who was raised on a cattle ranch. He serves as an elected official on the Sarasota Soil and Water Conservation District and is a past president of the Association of Florida Conservation Districts. He has served on advisory committees for the National Association of Conservation Districts and on a special committee advising the Chief of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) regarding conservation delivery. Underhill is currently serving as the chair of the Sarasota Agricultural Council, an organization he helped organize. He is also a member of the Sarasota County Farm Bureau and serves on its board of directors.
Klineschmidt grew up on a dairy farm in Viroqua, Wisconsin. He is the owner and operator of Urban Chicken Tractors, which custom-builds mobile backyard chicken coups.
