Funterior - An Augmented Reality Furniture and Home Decor Application
The online furniture and home needs marketplace mebelkart.com launches Funterior, India's first augmented reality android app that enables users to evaluate and shop for furniture via a camera based simulation.
Bangalore, India, October 30, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Mebelkart.com, the online furniture and home needs marketplace launches India’s first AR app “Funterior” for an interactive and fun home décor experience.
An easy to use app out on the Play store, Funterior enables users to shop for furniture on their smartphone with an augmented reality interface which enables them to play around with furniture models and their configuration, layout and look in a camera based simulation of their room.
“There are always those moments when someone absolutely loves a piece of furniture instantly but ends up going for something else because they are unsure of how the product would go with the rest of their home. As with everything else in their homes, customers need to be sure about the piece of furniture they are paying for and online furniture shopping fails to do this most of the times. That’s the catch in shopping for furniture online and online shopping in general; a lot is left to the user’s imagination. Funterior is our attempt to bridge that gap via technology,” says Rahul Agrawal, CEO, Mebelkart Technologies.
Funterior aims at giving a superior quality user experience to home décor enthusiasts and consumers. Users can now choose a home decor product of their choice from the Funterior catalogue, adjust it in their rooms through their mobile devices and evaluate the layout, position and overall look of the product in their homes. With a simple flick and zoom interface, the app uses the smartphone camera to provide a real-time model of the room.
“The app hopes to ease the shopping woes of buyers and simultaneously also reduce returns for online portals, leading to a win-win situation for both buyers and sellers. Based on the concept of augmented reality, this app further simplifies shopping for furniture online,” says Rahul.
The company believes that the app’s USP is the clean user interface that makes it easy to navigate and the simplicity of the user experience.
User instructions:
1. Install Funterior and open the app.
2. Select a product from the catalogue
3. The camera of the phone opens up and the product in its original dimensions can then be placed and adjusted in any room
4. Save and share images across platforms – Whatsapp, Facebook, Snapchat for example
5. Take reviews and opinions and buy the product, in-app.
Vision and Road Ahead
Says Rahul, “Funterior is a product specially designed to align with the company’s vision to ease the furniture and home decor buying experience for customers. Mebelkart is a $4 million annualized GMV group which intends to create a dent in the furniture and decor industry in India by using technology.”
Funterior has already signed up with two of the largest furniture retailers in India and is targeting both online and offline retailers across India and abroad. The company also aims to connect with Interior Decorators who could use this app for a better customer experience. The company is keen to promote this app across international markets from where the app is being downloaded at a steady pace.
