Write a Novel in November with San Diego Writers, Ink’s Help
San Diego, CA, October 30, 2014 --(PR.com)-- If writing a novel is on your wish list, get started November 1st and complete a book by the end of the month. The goal when signing up for NaNoWriMo, short for National Novel Writing Month, is to complete a 50,000 word novel by November 30. Although San Diego Writers, Ink is not affiliated with NaNoWriMo, they are supporting it by being a local resource for writers to help them reach the goal of the program.
"NaNoWriMo is a great time to kick that writing project into gear,” says Kim Keeline, Membership and Communications Director at San Diego Writers, Ink (SDWI). She continues, "Set a goal and make November the time to get it done. I've done it several times and even if I don't make 50,000 words, I still make more progress than on months where I don't put in the extra effort so it is always worth it to me. And the nice thing is that places like SDWI always add in extra writing activities and there is a sense of greater community involvement from all the people trying to make progress on their writing in the same few, short weeks."
Tammy Greenwood, a San Diego Writers, Ink teacher and multi-award winning novelist comments, “This is my ninth year of participating in NaNoWriMo. I have found it to be one of the greatest gifts a writer can give to themselves...30 days of intensive, writing activity. And at the end, the great reward is a wonderfully messy, but finished, first draft.”
Some of the ways NaNo writers can make it a community effort is to show up at San Diego Writers, Ink’s open writing sessions. The organization has a Come In And Write program with expanded hours for quiet writing sessions in November and members as well as non-members participating in NaNoWriMo are welcome. There are also the regular session writing practice groups, and classes. So to get started, first sign up with NanNoWriMo on their site www.nanowrimo.org, then plan on attending some of the activities with San Diego Writers, Ink.
