Chicago Churches Look Beyond Race & Religion to Celebrate Thanksgiving

The Third Annual "Miracle on 127th" Street Thanksgiving Celebration unites nearly twenty churches of all denominations and cultures for one community-focused service.

Chicago, IL, November 04, 2007 --(PR.com)-- A number of Southland churches will unite Sunday, November 18th for their Third Annual Ecumenical Thanksgiving Celebration entitled, “Miracle on 127th Street”. A Minister’s Fellowship of nearly twenty churches along the 127th Street corridor, from Chicago to Palos Heights developed this service as a way to reach out to members of the community beyond their own denomination.

They will combine congregations Sunday, November 18th at 6:00pm in the Ozinga Chapel at Trinity Christian College, 6601 W. College Drive in Palos Heights, IL. This multicultural, interfaith event is open to all at no charge.
Included in the celebration will be a Parade of Nations featuring a multicultural array of children, a mass choir featuring singers from all of the various churches and other special guest artists including Miss Alexandria Bennefield, the 2007 winner of the Total Living Network’s Emmy-winning talent show, “Inspiration Sensation”. The Keynote Speaker will be Rev. Senator James T. Meeks, Senior Pastor of Salem Baptist Church of Chicago. The Minister’s Alliance voted to dedicate the offering to the PADS Organization which assists homeless residents of the Southland.

The Fellowship of Ministers came together under the direction and vision of Rev. Dan Willis, Senior Pastor of The Lighthouse Church of All Nations in Alsip, IL. The Lighthouse Church is a diverse congregation of 2,000 and Rev. Willis noticed the racial divide that separated the churches down 127th from as far West as Harlem Avenue and as far East as State Street. He determined to bring these Pastors together and they have successfully met several times over the last two years. Last year’s Ecumenical Celebration was hosted at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church and had an overflow crowd of 1,000 in attendance.
