Park Slope for Pets Creates Petition to Support Allowing Dogs Into Non-Food Establishments

Brooklyn, NY, November 06, 2014 --(PR.com)-- After the NYC Department of Health has cracked down on drinking establishments that have always prided themselves on being dog-friendly, Park Slope for Pets (www.parkslopeforpets.com) created a petition showing support for “challenging an outdated law that marks all non-food drinking establishments in NYC as ‘food establishments.’”

In less than one week, Park Slope for Pets has collected more than 500 signatures in support of dog-friendly establishments, and the momentum is growing outside of just Park Slope. Local dog groups, businesses and organizations have reached out wanting to know how they can help support this petition.

This petition started because of a citation issued to The Gate, a neighborhood bar, by the Department of Health. Since its opening in the late 90s, The Gate has welcomed dogs and received no complaints. A recent 311 call prompted the DOH to fine The Gate as this non-food establishment is held to the same standards as food establishments.

Park Slope for Pets has already received coverage and support from TV stations such as CBS 2, NBC 4, FOX 5 News and from other media including Metro NY, Daily News, New York Observer. They have also been in several well-known local news blog sites.
