Metabolic Medical Institute Concludes Successful Integrative Medicine Education Event in Miami, FL
Boca Raton, FL, November 07, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Medical professionals from all over the nation gathered at The Fontainebleau Hotel this weekend for The Metabolic Medical Institute’s (MMI) Integrative and Metabolic Medicine Courses. The event offered an invaluable forum for practitioners to network, learn and share the latest studies and insights in integrative and functional medicine. Kicking off on Friday October 31st, the event featured two concurrent and comprehensive 3-day courses, and allowed practitioners the opportunity to earn up to 24 CME credits at one of Miami’s most beautiful venues.
Course III focused on Nutritional Metabolism, Environmental Exposures, Cardiometabolic Diseases and Hormone Management. Leading integrative medicine experts, such as George Bakris, MD, Russell Jaffe, MD, PhD, and Joel Heidelbaugh, MD, led sessions on the assessment and management of cardiometabolic risk, hormonal imbalances, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy, and medical toxicology and detoxification strategies. Practitioners were provided comprehensive information on how factors like hormones, nutrients and toxins play a central role in common cardiac and endocrine disease.
Well-known physicians and scientists, including Alessio Fasano, MD, Kelly Brogan, MD, and Ritchie Shoemaker, MD, led discussions for Course IV which focused on Gastroenterology, Immunology, and Neurology. These sessions enabled practitioners to better assess and recognize disease markers, and develop personalized integrative treatment plans. Key topics included the effective assessment and management of gastrointestinal disorders, management of patients with cancer and chronic infections, and integrative strategies for treating neurologic and psychiatric conditions.
"After four years of Graduate School at UCLA and two residencies, followed by over thirty years of practice, I was faced with a gnawing frustration due to the lack of scientific extent in the practice of medicine,” shared Douglas Beatty, MD. “Finally deciding to take the plunge into MMI was an absolutely revolutionary experience with an explosion of scientific data presented by world renowned scientists and clinicians whose articles I have read for years. This one course this weekend has given me hope to master the molecular and integrative specialty, which has been my passion from the start."
The courses are an integral part of the Graduate Certificate in Integrative Medicine offered through MMI’s educational partnership with The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health. MMI formed an alliance with The George Washington University earlier this year to provide medical practitioners with a more robust portfolio of educational offerings, supported by one of the top universities in the country.
The program is directed by Andrew Heyman MD MHSA, an internationally recognized expert in Integrative Medicine. Prior to assuming this role, Dr. Heyman spent sixteen years at the University of Michigan, building one of the largest and most successful academic-based Integrative Medicine programs in the United States.
Attendees at this weekend’s event certainly found it to be valuable, relevant, enlightening, and an important investment in transforming their practice, and improving patient care.
“What I found particularly useful was the diversity of speakers,” said Dr. Susan Marra, a naturopathic physician from Washington. “Since my patients suffer from a myriad of complex chronic illness for which I hope to help them heal from, I am always in search of new ideas and perspectives to help me move them along their healing journey. It's like a Rubik’s cube, for which I have been using a set way to problem solve. MMI has given me a new perspective.”
