Horses Gallop Back from the Dead for Film Premiere
“TARPAN: Repainting An Ancient Picture” will premiere in New York as part of the historic Equus Film Festival Event.
Ojai, CA, November 11, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Horsefly Films will premiere their new documentary film TARPAN: Repainting An Ancient Picture in New York on November 21, 2014 as part of the prestigious Equus Film Festival.
Now in its second year, The Equus Film Festival features over 100 films from all over the world, all with horse-related themes and competing in several categories. Horsefly Films’ work PATH TO GLORY won Best Documentary at the festival last year.
With TARPAN, they illuminate a prehistoric horse that went extinct at the hands of humans over a century ago. The twisty tale includes Nazis and Nobility, biologists and bystanders-- all desperately trying to recreate the breed ever since, with varying degrees of luck until now. The New Tarpan has been rewilded into it’s prehistoric home range, struggling to find their way back to their ancient selves. TARPAN is the second of a new series created for their Horsefly Films’ Rare Equine Trust, dedicated to the filmic preservation of endangered rare equines and equine cultures around the world, through the creation of an ongoing cinematic library.
“The horse is a reminder of man’s loftier connection to nature and many of these breeds will disappear without intervention - a great loss to humanity. Despite modern technology making horses obsolete for many, the debt to history remains. They are an integral part of who we are, of who we became, and it is our duty to preserve that bond,” say filmmakers Sophie Pegrum and Jen Miller.
The RARE series of films captures the beauty, history and fragile position of rare equines and the work of those trying to preserve them, establishing a compelling film folio for equine enthusiasts, biologists, social historians and general audiences while archiving these breeds and related cultures for posterity. Horsefly Films’ acclaimed work shines a light on these crucial stories through their unique lens to history, which in turn promotes passion, knowledge and activism in their audience.
Horsefly Films’ independent filmmaker duo Sophie Dia Pegrum and Jen Miller, wrote, directed, produced, shot and edited TARPAN after traveling to the Polish State Studs and the remote Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria where the new Tarpan have been rewilded by an international team of conservation organizations, including Rewilding Europe, Ark Nature Foundation and New Thracian Gold.
