Put a Sock in It: UpArt Socks Sales Behind Effort to Rebuild Haiti

Miami, FL, November 12, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Money needed to rebuild Haiti -- even four years after a catastrophic earthquake leveled the capital city of Port Au Prince – has not grown on trees, but bamboo still does, according to Ravel Dupiton, co-founder of UpArt Socks, which will donate a percent of each custom-designed sock and sunglass sold to help restore infrastructure in his native Caribbean nation.

UpArt Socks, an Atlanta-based designer of socks made from a combination of combed bamboo, spandex, and cotton, will make the contributions in collaboration with Help for Haiti, a Naples, Fla.-based non-profit which has been working for the past 20 years to improve the quality of life for the Haitian people -- especially children – through education, nutrition and healthcare assistance.

The earthquake, Jan. 22, 2010, killed 222,570 people, injured 300,572, and displaced 2.3 million people. Various organizations have since helped to rebuild Haiti, but Dupiton believes much work remains to be done.

“When people look good, they feel good,” said Dupiton, whose custom-designed socks feature a self-adjusting welt cuff and seamless toe closure in an assortment of styles and colors. “This is our small way to not only help people look good, but to help them feel good as well by making a contribution toward helping people who need help.”
